Greyside Developments delivered the full interior fit-out of Mackay’s on the Mile, a vibrant live music, food, and drink venue located in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Canongate. This project involved transforming an empty shell unit in a newly constructed development into a bold, split-level hospitality space—designed in collaboration with KBAD Architects.
The venue features an industrial-inspired aesthetic, brought to life with reclaimed timber flooring, exposed finishes, and a custom-built steel mezzanine. The mezzanine includes a concrete-infilled floor to provide structural integrity and a distinct character to the upper level.
To meet the operational demands of a busy hospitality setting, the upper floor was fitted with a new commercial kitchen and associated services, including a dummy waiter for efficient food service and customer convenience. All toilet facilities were also formed at mezzanine level, integrated seamlessly into the layout.
One of the venue’s standout features is the large-scale mural adorning the ground floor wall—a striking tribute to local Scottish heroes, cultural icons, and well-known TV personalities. It’s a visual centrepiece that brings atmosphere and storytelling into the space.
As part of the Bruce Taverns Group portfolio, Mackay’s on the Mile now stands as a unique destination that reflects the client’s distinctive brand, while delivering a modern venue with strong cultural ties and outstanding attention to design and build detail.

This repeat commission reflects the client’s confidence in our ability to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes aligned with their operational needs and corporate identity.
The Dundee project involved the full refurbishment of an empty industrial unit into a combined office and storage facility. A steel mezzanine was installed to provide upper-level storage, while the space below was developed into modern offices and meeting rooms—echoing the efficient and professional layout of the Glasgow location.
Working alongside a local architect responsible for building warrant and planning approvals, Greyside managed the project as a design and build contract. The scope covered all trades and was delivered on time, maintaining the same high standards and cohesive brand image established in previous works.

Greyside Developments recently completed the full refurbishment of the well-known Chinese Manor House restaurant in Corstorphine, Edinburgh. In collaboration with KBAD Architects, the project aimed to breathe new life into the venue while preserving its cultural character and enhancing the customer experience.
One of the focus points was the transformation of the function room to allow the space to be more inclusive and not feel like an ‘add-on’,
The design team sought to create a dramatic and memorable atmosphere. This was successfully achieved with the installation of a striking feature chandelier, serving as the room’s visual centerpiece.
Despite the temporary closure of the dine-in space, the restaurant continued to serve the community by operating a takeaway service throughout the refurbishment period. The project culminated in a grand reopening, marking a fresh chapter for the business and showcasing the revitalized interior to great acclaim.
Greyside Developments is proud to have delivered this project on time and to a high standard, helping a beloved local business elevate its offering while maintaining service continuity.
